maranoa

The Maranoa brand  is named after one of the oldest properties in the Nagambie area, a farming property was most likely planted with vines during the 1870's when there were widespread plantings throughout he region.

Maranoa has only one wine under its banner – being Verdelho, the white variety which David is most recognised for both nationally and internationally.

Verdelho, originating in Portugal, is one of the classic grape varieties in the making of Madiera, and has been planted in Australia since the very early 1800’s. Nowadays it is made primarily as a dry white - the style David has been making since 1990 is best described as being made similar to Riesling, with clean juice slowly fermented with selected yeasts and some age on lees prior to early bottling.

Verdelho as a variety ripens early and shows fantastic tropical fruit characters, as well as peach, lemongrass and guava aromas, flowing through to palates of mouthfilling intensity and long length.

Having made the variety for 23 vintages, it can be definitely said that the variety, while extremely attractive when young, also ages surprisingly well, to become a toasty complex and enjoyable aged white.
